S4: Ep 3 - Erin Skipley teaches me how to manifest destiny.

This week’s episode starts with one of my favorite things to talk about - beauty.  Something about me you may not know is that I am obsessed with skin care and beauty products.  I love it all so much.  Lotions, serums, sheet masks, makeup  - you name it, I’ve tried it and I have opinions about it and love to talk any and all product.  So naturally, when I met a friend for coffee and noticed looked dewy and amazing, I had to ask her all about what she was doing to look so incredible.  She shyly took a second and she goes - I’m not even wearing makeup…I just got some natural liner tattooed on and it just looks like I have eye makeup on!!  I couldn’t believe it.  I knew about the tattoo makeup of the early 90’s - and this was not that at all.  She led me to the IG page @contour.ink - owned by a woman named Erin Skipley.  Her before and after shots are Insta perfection  - taking already beautiful people, and just adding the most subtle detail to their faces to just make them look effortless - it was truly art and after about 6 months of thinking about it - I booked my appointment.

I knew Erin was also a well-known LA makeup artist so when I went to her Seattle studio, I had logged LOTS of questions for her to kill the 90 minute appointment where she was stuck with me, but as I laid down to let her work on my eyelids, she revealed so much of herself and what she’d been through with Covid, that I wanted to share her vulnerability and knowledge with you all.

Keeping in theme with Covid pivots, Erin had rented the studio of her dreams in Beverly Hills to begin her restorative beauty business.  I’ll let her take you through her process of manfesting her space, but shortly after she signed the lease in 2020, Covid took the world over.  She was left to figure out how to keep her space and her business, and her pivot took her very much out of her comfortzone of in-person makeup, to online instruction.

Erin’s whole attitude is one of instruction, expertise and hustle.  I keep using that word, but it’s the best one i can think of.  Her never give up attitude and belief in herself and her talents is so awesome to witness.  It’s not that Erin doesn’t have imposter syndrome, it’s just that she’s learned to work through it in a way that I really learned from.  I hope you do too.  Regardless of whether or not you’re a beauty fanatic, there’s something in Erin’s story for you.  Life is short - have the courage to do things that scare you.

Erin’s brand of beauty really resonated with me.  As many of you know and can learn from my social media - I don’t wear a ton of makeup, but i do love looking put together and somewhat natural.  Erin takes the beauty that’s already there and just makes it subtly better  - just a teeny bit where you need it.  Her offerings are all on her Insta page @contour.and.ink ,  Please check her out and book with this incredibly talented individual - you’re in the best hands.
